Team National Distributors Travel to Washington, D.C., to Explain Importance Of Direct Selling to Congress During Second Annual Direct Selling Day

Washington, D.C. (September 10, 2014) – Team National  leaders were among more than 400 direct selling representatives meeting with members of Congress to share personal stories about how direct selling has helped them achieve business and personal goals to create a better life.

"Direct Selling Day on Capitol Hill was one for the record books. Team National Eagle Winners Don & Dixie Garrison, Larry & Debbie McDonald and Bobby & Courtney Matheny along with myself and over 400 other Direct Selling professionals took our proud message direct to the lawmakers of this great land. What resonated most, was that Direct Selling allows any person regardless of race, economic situation, and upbringing to achieve life changing results with perseverance," exclaimed Team National’s Executive Vice President Phil Chrysler.

Participants from all corners of the country discussed how direct selling – which involves the sale of products and services person-to-person, through home parties or online through distributor websites – allows them to be their own boss, work at their own pace and build their business how they see fit.

“Direct selling empowers entrepreneurs who are building the American economy community by community,” said Joseph Mariano, president of DSA. “Our industry has a positive story to tell and Direct Selling Day on Capitol Hill is a great way to ensure policymakers understand our people are our industry’s greatest asset – 17 million Americans strong and counting.”

In 2013, direct sales totaled $32.67 billion, according to the Growth and Outlook Report. This represents a 3.3 percent year-over-year increase from $31.63 billion in 2012 and continues an upward trend that began in 2010.

Direct Selling Day participants also signed the Direct Selling Proclamation and Compact, which is another way to ensure that elected officials understand the important role direct selling plays in the U.S. economy and the lives of millions of Americans.
